Skip Beck
For our second edition of Faces of F.A.R.M., we're introducing you to our friend and diner Skip!
When Skip Beck walks into F.A.R.M., the staff automatically gives him a small bottle of hot sauce to dash on his meal. They know him that well. A regular diner and retired professor of psychology, Skip values F.A.R.M. because "it is a little slice of how the world should be." He should know since he has traveled much of it. Born into a military family, he spent three years in Rome attending an international school with 26 nationalities in attendance. He says, "I learned there are many different ways of being human. That value has stayed with me."
While in Rome, Skip would tour the Sistine Chapel which ended at the Vatican Museum. "I was impressed with so many beautiful people. I wanted to do something beautiful too. The only medium available to me was writing."
In addition to attending Joseph Bathanti's creative writing workshops hosted by F.A.R.M., Skip is currently working on two books. He is the second author of a history of psychology book. His second book explores how it feels to be a part of a research project. "For me, research is an adventure, a joy."
Whether he is dipping into a large bowl of soup or his creative juices, Skip believes food facilitates conversation and a loving community. "At F.A.R.M., people associate and communicate freely on an equal level. It is indeed a little slice of how the world should be."
