F.A.R.M. Cafe is grateful for everyone who volunteered and donated to the Garden Spot over the past 4 years. We especially appreciate Susan Owen the Garden Spot manager who gave so much love, passion, creativity, and energy to the Garden Spot project. This past Fall (2015) Susan decided to put her energies towards personal garden/farm projects. The F.A.R.M. Cafe board of directors has determined to shift our local garden emphasis to work with local Community Sustainable Agriculture farms to provide fresh local produce for the Cafe.
The Garden Spot was a 1/2 acre, organic food production plot help to supply F.A.R.M. Cafe with fresh, seasonal produce.
The Garden Spot is located directly behind the Original Mast General Store in historic Valle Crucis North Carolina. Blue Ridge Conservency holds a conservation easement on the Cooper property where the garden is located. In the fall of 2012 Susan Owen, along with a group of Sustainable Development students, worked with the Blue Ridge Conservency to ensure that the garden would continue to promote this local conservation effort.
F.A.R.M. Cafe is currently seeking partner agencies/gardeners to continue the Garden Spot.
dedication: Charles church
The 2013 garden and its bounty were dedicated to Charles Church.
Charles passed away in early June 2013, shortly after disking The Garden Spot. He gave freely of his time to promote farming and organic agriculture in the High Country area and was always quick to pass along a tip or something he’d learned from his experience in the fields to anyone who was interested in learning. He will be missed greatly, but not forgotten. (75 words)
Though we are no longer producing at the Garden Spot. We are still working with local Farmers and Gardeners who contribute produce to F.A.R.M. Cafe.
If you are interested in working as a volunteer with any of these gardens/farms please sign-up as a volunteer and select the Garden Opportunities through our volgistics volunteer scheduling system which is accessible through the volunteer tab.
If you have questions/concerns please contact F.A.R.M. Cafe. Thanks!
