History

The idea for F.A.R.M. Cafe began in 2009 when a group of citizens from High Country United Church of Christ who were concerned about the area’s unmet hunger needs discussed a community kitchen concept that was operating successfully in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was called One World Everybody Eats Café.

Convinced that a similar restaurant could work in the High Country, this group formed a committed Board of Directors and started ambitious community awareness and fundraising campaigns. They also befriended One World Everybody Eats Café’s founder Denise Cerreta, who visited Boone and offered valuable insight and advice for operating a successful community kitchen.
Board members have traveled to other parts of the country to observe these restaurants, volunteer in their kitchens and participate in annual One World Everybody Eats Foundation conferences.

In January 2012, F.A.R.M. Cafe began leasing the soda foundation space in Boone Drug Downtown, a 100-year-old building on Boone’s historic King Street. For decades, Boone Drug’s soda fountain served the community as a social gathering place, and F.A.R.M. Cafe will continue in that tradition by providing a place for all.

The opening of F.A.R.M. Cafe in April 2012 would be impossible without the tremendous support of the High Country community and their many financial contributions – both large and small. Thank you!
