FAQs
We are funded through direct donations of dining patrons as well as grants, fundraising projects and outside contributions.
A small group of Boone citizens became aware of One World Everybody Eats Cafe in Salt Lake City, Utah, through a shared magazine article. After initial discussion, it was decided in August of 2009 to pursue a similar model in Boone, NC, to combat our own hunger issues as well as to take advantage of the opportunity to create community through a new business model.
Who will you select as your primary target to market your business to?
Everybody! This is the overwhelming theme and mission of our cafe: to build a healthy and inclusive community by providing high quality and delicious meals produced from local sources, served in a restaurant where everybody eats, regardless of means.
How does this cafe differ from other ‘regular” restaurants that emphasize local, organic cuisine?
The F.A.R.M. Cafe is different because our goal is not only to serve real good food but to also build community through training volunteers and fostering educational opportunities for those who may wish to learn more about our work as well as our business model.
We have three professional chefs on our planning team as well as successful business entrepreneurs who know what it takes to staff a kitchen as well as encourage responsible, fair practices in management. We also have immediate access to other community cafes throughout the country who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences to support our success.
How will this business support local growers and the farming communities?
We are already networking with Appalachian State University’s Sustainable Development Program to encourage cooperation with their established practices of supporting farmers. We have also been given the stamp of approval from the local Farmers’ Market to encourage our efforts and help us to educate our staff and volunteers through direct training on farms as well as composting practices to encourage low levels of land-fill food waste.
